Sherry Swisher, Manager of Green Branch Library, is excited to once again be presenting Green residents the Mind, Body & Sole Summer Reading program. The program which runs from June 8 — August 8, 2015 aims to make reading and exercise a part of your day—every day. Both have the power to brighten your spirit, stimulate your imagination and improve your health. For youth librarian Mary Tanner, “Mind Body Sole celebrates two of the best things about summer – reading great books and being physically active.”
Mind, Body & Sole: Read At Your Own Pace is a reading/wellness experience for the whole family to enjoy. You’re more likely to read and exercise if it’s convenient–Mind, Body & Sole is so easy, it practically runs itself.
Register today at Akron-Summit County Public Library, Green Branch. Receive your reading/exercise log and pedometer. Now you’re ready to get started! Cherri Hittie-Staley, Youth Librarian, shared “Green Branch’s program will kick-off on Wednesday, June 17 from 1pm – 3pm with a Dance Party featuring pirates, princesses and snowmen. I hope to see everyone come in costume! It’s going to be an exciting afternoon.” Other planned activities include animals, bingo, a magician, Mad Science, insects and movies. What more could anyone ask for?
How the program works: starting June 8 use your reading log to record each day you read for 30 minutes. As you reach reading milestones, you’ll be rewarded with fun incentives and be entered into drawings for great prizes.
Choose to be active also!
Run/walk at least 26 miles (or 52,000 pedometer steps) over that same period of time. Take pride in recording any and all of your fitness accomplishments on your exercise log.
When you have reached 26 miles AND read 26 days, you will receive a Mind, Body & Sole T-shirt and have the chance to be entered into our Grand Prize Drawing on August 24.
Sherry Swisher commented, “Last year we had over 921 people participate in this program. The challenge for this year is to break 1000. I believe with the strong support of the Green community we can easily do that!” Help Sherry and her team have a successful summer reading program and join today!
